the truth, the vole truth and nothing but the truth

This little meadow vole just got accepted into a juried show today. I created it a while ago for a wildlife illustration class. During the research for this image, I came across an article referencing these little rodents as the largest pests of commercially grown artichokes. Wacky.

Exhibits and an invitation

I have been hard at work on several exhibits lately. Two are done and one is in the works.
Above & below I am working with Mollie Cueva-Dubkowski, a Careers in Science Intern at CAS, to create an exhibit in the Library Reading Room on Ecuador. Mollie is a fabulous writer (as evidenced by this blog) and her exhibit is fascinating to look at AND educational. There will be another blog post (it's in the works now) with more images, as the Reading Room is not open to the public without an appointment.

Also, this past Monday, myself and a number of wonderful volunteers, hung the Nature's Jewels show at t he Tilden Environmental Education Center. pics below!

A Virtual Tour

For those of you who missed East Bay Open Studios these last two weekends, here is a small virtual tour. Many, many thanks to Cynthia for coming out to visit, AND for taking photos. PLUS she remembered to email them to me so that I could share them. Huzzah!

The original plates for my field guide (which you can still purchase here).

A horn shark from the poetry book I am illustrating. I hope to have all the illustrations done and the book out by the fall.

Several years ago, Cynthia photographed me at Open Studios half way through  painting this Pacific Octopus. Here it is completed. I had it out in the yard as the first thing folks saw when they made it to the end of the driveway.

The west wall of the studio. The lower six illustrations will also be in the  book of ocean-themed poetry.

A nice shot of the pew that Alice snagged for me. It has kneelers and everything!

This one was done in pencil and recently re-framed.

And what tour would be complete without a cheesy photo of me?
Is there really any other kind?

The New Exhibit is on the Walls!

This is one of three images I have in the fabulous GNSI California group show Art of Nature at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History. I once again served as curator, as well as having my art on the wall. There are 67 images from 28 amazing artists! Myself and a cadre of (mostly) museum volunteers hung the show this morning, and it looks fantastic! The above image is the cover piece from my new field guide, Golden Gate Beach Wrack, which will be for sale in the museum gift shop.

Run, don't walk! Swim, boat, surf, bike, bus or carpool your way there! Official dates of the show 4/7-6/2.
