For all of the fancy pens I own, I still like drawing with a ballpoint pen. If I haven't used one for a while I get surprised all over by the range of grays possible.

I used to scoff at drawing in ballpoint pens. Then my field sketching teacher started singing their praises, and I stopped scoffing: the range of grays, their responsiveness to pressure, is fantastic. And it turns out it's easy to watercolor over the top of ballpoint pen sketches, so I'm hooked now!
ReplyDeleteOooooh! Adding water color on top of the ball point pen... I hadn't thought to do that. I've done it the other way (used ball point to outline once the watercolor has dried). I think I feel some experimental sketches coming on!
